Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will

A. Know and understand

1. Demonstrate Advanced knowledge and understanding of Pauline theology and the Book of Romans in the English text.

B. Be able to

1. Examine the ‘introductory’ issues in understanding Pauline theology and the Book of Romans

2. Evaluate alternative interpretations of the main themes and theological teachings of Pauline theology and the Book of Romans

3. Exegete selected passages of the English text of Romans

C. Be in a position to

1. Applying the teaching of Pauline theology and the Book of Romans to contemporary Christian living and ministry practice 

Content

1. Pauline theology: its integrating ideas and its major themes (e.g. Christology, eschatology, ecclesiology, Paul and the law, centrum Paulinum).

2. The major issues in contemporary study and the central themes of Romans.

3. Exegesis of the English text of eight chapters from Romans 1–11.
