Units offered

The ACT is offering units offers units contributing towards our specialist qualifications in ministry and theology. Throughout 2018 and 2019, ACT developed a new unit coding system to give greater transparency to students about the level and the volume of each unit of study.

Unit codes are in the following format:

AA111-LVV, where AA represents the unit field of the content being delivered, and together with the three digit number, AA111 is able to identify the unique content being delivered in that unit. L represents the AQF Level of the unit of study. VV is a two digit number representing the credit point value of the unit. From 2020, ACT uses a credit point system where a standard full-time year of study is 96 credit points.

Coursework units in accredited courses are offered at five levels:
AQF Level 5 units, which offer students an opportunity to show foundational knowledge and understanding of a topic;
AQF Level 6 units, where students are required to show developing knowledge and understanding in an area;
AQF Level 7 units, which requires students to show a functional knowledge and understanding of a topic;
AQF Level 8 units, where students will develop advanced knowledge and understanding of a topic,
AQF Level 9 units, which require students to demonstrate specialised knowledge and understanding.

Certificate level units are only available in our non-AQF certificate courses.

Unit approvals process

ACT offers a common curriculum, with affiliated colleges all being able to deliver the same units with distinct emphases based on their confessional diversities and areas of specialisation.

Affiliated colleges are welcome to submit proposals to add new units or amend existing units to the Coursework Unit Review Panel. Once the Panel is satisfied with the appropriateness of the unit aims, content, learning outcomes and bibliography, it recommends approval of the unit to the Coursework Committee, which includes representatives from every affiliated college.

The Academic Board has reviewed and revised the structure of all courses and the units and unit levels offered, with a focus on ensuring full and transparent compliance with the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
