Applying perspectives and skills from ‘Advanced Preaching Workshop A’ to ministry practice as a reflective practitioner
Content
This is a practical workshop that is designed to give students practice in moving from text, special occasion or topic to outline. Students are required to work through the process together under supervision. They are also required to preach at least two sermons over the course of the four workshops, obtaining feedback and integrating their reflection into their assessment where relevant. The following topics are to be covered over the four workshops A to D, in any proportion or order.
- Expository: Move from a passage, idea to outline with a clearly stated purpose. Depending on the approach used this may involve the development of an exegetical idea, and a homiletical idea . An engaging introduction and clear application should be developed. Genre to include Narrative and instruction/epistle, from both Testaments.
- Topical: Move from topic to sermon outline, with integration of biblical material.
- Special Occasion: Develop introduction and outline of sermons for a range of special occasions, with integration of biblical material and due recognition of the occasion.
