Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will

A. Know and understand

1. Demonstrate Advanced knowledge and understanding of the goals and methods of exegesis with reference to the Gospel of John in the Greek text

B. Be able to

1. Examine the goals and methods of exegesis with reference to the Gospel of John in the Greek text
2. Evaluate alternative interpretations of the themes and theological teachings of the Gospel of John in the Greek text
3. Translate and Exegete selected passages of the Greek text of the Gospel of John
 

C. Be in a position to

1. Applying ‘Introduction to Greek Exegesis (John’s Gospel)’ to New Testament exegesis, contemporary Christian living and ministry practice

Content

1. The goals and methods of Greek exegesis;

2. The theology, purpose, history, materials, and methods of textual criticism of the Greek New Testament;

3. The major historical, literary and theological issues and themes relevant to the interpretation of the Gospel of John;

4. Exegesis of sections of the Gospel of John equivalent to three to four chapters.

5. Current issues in linguistics as they relate to NT Greek exegesis.
