Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will

A. Know and understand

Demonstrate Functional knowledge and understanding of personal evangelism, including standards of professional, safe and ethical practice

B. Be able to

1. Discuss the theological rationale of, and key apologetic issues in, personal evangelism

2. Demonstrate skill in personal evangelism.

3. Present Critical evidence-based perspectives on personal evangelism

C. Be in a position to

1. Applying perspectives and skills from ‘Foundations of Personal Evangelism’ to contemporary Christian living and ministry contexts as a reflective practitioner

Content

Aims: This unit is an introduction to personal evangelism that aims to: 1.teach students a gospel outline that is suitable for the contemporary context for evangelism. 2.provide a theological rationale for the approach used; 3.equip students to answer key apologetic questions; 4.motivate students to engage in personal evangelism; 5.model an approach to training others for evangelism that students can use. Unit outline: 1.Proclamation: learning a gospel outline and its theological rationale 2.Players: The non-Christian, God, you and the church 3.Perspectives: Understanding worldviews and answering common objections 4.Practical: Personal engagement with a non-Christian friend every 1-3 weeks with interactions to be recorded in the Field Work Diary.
