On 6 June 2023, the Australian College of Theology was delighted to launch Emeritus Professor Edwin Judge’s latest book, published in the ACT Monograph Series. It is the culmination of an influential career.
Edited by Alex Macdonald, Out Here Down Under is a collection of documents and papers illuminating the development and character of ancient history as a discipline in the Antipodes. It considers especially the distinctive and extraordinarily popular program, championed by Prof Judge, of studying classical and biblical corpora together under one discipline, with an emphasis on the interpretation of documentary sources. These texts, mostly written by Judge himself throughout his career, appear here with new introductory notes outlining their historical significance for the discipline and Judge’s own practice.
The launch was held at Robert Menzies College. Professor James Dalziel, ACT Dean, launched the book, while the editor Alex Macdonald spoke about its significance. Among those present were Associate Professor Stuart Piggin, who has written a commendation of the book, and Andrew Lu, to whom the book is dedicated.
