Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students willA. Know and understand
Demonstrate Advanced knowledge and understanding of the dimensions of and practical issues Related to Christian Counselling, including the methods and standards of professional, safe and ethical practice
B. Be able to
1. Examine the issues Related to counselling practice and supervision in Christian ministry settings
2. Observe particular counselling practice in professional and Christian ministry settings
3. Present Research-Aware evidence-based perspectives on the practice of Christian counselling
C. Be in a position to
Applying Advanced perspectives from ‘Practical Ministry Field Education’ to Chrstian ministry practice and supervised counselling as a reflective practitioner
Content
Section A: (30 hours including 20 classroom hours and personal research)
1. Course Introduction: Professional practice and supervision in helping profession
2. The helping models for professional practice and supervision
3. Legal and ethical issues in counselling practice and supervision
Section B: (Not less than 120 hours of supervised experience in a professional counselling practice as follows)
1. Students must join a counselling association to get its membership and conduct a minimum of 50 hours supervised counselling practice at a professional counselling centre
2. A minimum of 12 hours meeting with their supervisor
3. A minimum of 10 hours of peer supervision
4. 8 hours of case study discussion with peers and supervisor
5. Reflections and writing of counselling log books and reports for supervisor (40 hours)
