Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will

A. Know and understand

Demonstrate Functional knowledge and understanding of the mentoring and pastoral care of workers, including the methods and standards of professional, safe and ethical practice

B. Be able to

1. Explore the biblical theology of workplace and relationships

2. Discuss the pressures of the modern workplace

3. Demonstrate skills in pastoral care and mentoring

4. Present Critical evidence-based perspectives on mentoring and pastoral care of workers

C. Be in a position to

1. Applying perspectives and skills from ‘Mentoring and Pastoral Care of Workers’ to contemporary Christian living and ministry practice as a reflective practitioner

Content

This unit will prepare people for roles of Workplace Chaplaincy / Ministry. It will also enable those in workplaces to think through in a deeper level the application of their studies to their working lives, and those in parish ministry to develop a theological underpinning for their ministry to working people.

Mentoring & Pastoral Care of Workers will combine the basics of mentoring and pastoral care skills with an awareness of the particular issues of the modern workplace. It will assist the student to also be strategic in developing a mentoring or pastoral care program which can be delivered in a pastoral or workplace setting.

Teaching Aims:

  1. To provide basic skills in pastoral care and mentoring with a focus on workers
  2. To explore issues specific to workplace settings
