Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students willA. Know and understand

1. Examine the theology and models of church planting
2. Demonstrate skill in utilising scholarship and learning in exegeting cultures with a view to church planting
3. Present Research-Aware evidence-based perspectives on church planting
C. Be in a position to
1. Applying Advanced perspectives and skills from ‘Practical Ministry Field Education (Church Planting)’ to ministry practice and Christian living as a reflective practitioner
Content
Section A: Theoretical Study
- An understanding of contemporary models of church planting, with particular reference to one or more of these models such as a missional ecclesiology and framework
- A study of biblical insights for church planting and models of church planting
- A development of a spirituality for planters which includes missional practices, self care and spiritual discernment.
- Develop the capacity for cultural exegesis in order for more contextualised church planting to occur. This includes understanding cultural narrative and the kingdom of God narrative.
- Training in and critical analysis of vision casting, team building, bi-vocational leadership and discipleship development for pioneering leaders.
Section B: Field Work
- 200 hours experience in a local congregation
- 125 hours to be spent in actual ministry of church planting including attending a church planting conference.
- 40 hours are to be spent in preparation and writing up assessment tasks
- 35 hours to consist of reflection on practical experience at leas 10 hours with an approved coach/supervisor.
