4. Present Critical evidence-based perspectives on the principles and practice of Christian counselling

1. Apply perspectives and skills from ‘Principles and Practice of Christian Counselling’ to ministry practice as a reflective practitioner
Content
Section A (25%):
- Developmental paradigms and lifespan development overviews.
- Newer approaches to lifespan development – contextual, postmodern, constructivist, feminist and narrative perspectives.
- Cultural factors in lifespan development.
- Attachment theory, lifespan development, and implications for counselling.
- The social sciences and Christian ministry.
- Ethical, professional and legal issues in counselling.
Section B (25%):
- Development – working towards a biblical anthropology
- Wholeness and health – working towards developing a biblical anthropology
- Maturity and Community – developing biblical frameworks
Section C: Practical (50%)
- Counselling microskills practice – at least 14 hours of basic counselling skills, including attending, active listening, empathy and probing.
- The taping of a counselling session, with 15 minute transcript showing joining, empathy and advanced empathy.
