Content
1. Introduction to the study of Deuteronomy. This unit will discuss, at an advanced level, foundational issues essential to interpreting Deuteronomy: literary context; theories about the composition, structure, genre(s) of the book, etc.
2. Themes and issues in the interpretation of Deuteronomy. This unit will examine ideas within and related to Deuteronomy that are significant for contemporary teaching and preaching of the book: idolatry, sin, grace vs. obedience, the decalogue, divine presence, holy war, and the use of Deuteronomy in the New Testament, etc.
3. Interpretation of the book of Deuteronomy. This unit will present and engage students in the process of interpreting, at an advanced level, selected passages from Deuteronomy. This will include guiding students in the process of constructively criticising contemporary interpretations.
4. Preaching the book of Deuteronomy.
