Content
Biblical foundations: selection and preparation of leaders; divine activity in emerging leaders’ lives; Moses, Nehemiah, Jesus, Peter, Timothy; characteristics of a leader; fruit and gifts of the Spirit; servant role.
Concepts of Christian leadership, cultural influences on leadership, and ways of developing leaders: leadership styles in various (including Western) cultural contexts; cultural assumptions influencing leadership; traditional assumptions about and patterns of leadership in various cultures; questions of selection, training, credibility, authority, acceptance, age and tenure;
Ways of training leaders: formal, non-formal, and informal, e.g. discipleship, mentoring, apprenticeship, schooling
Developing a personal philosophy of leadership development across cultures
Designing training approaches: needs assessment; outcomes; identifying the right people culturally and biblically; formal and non-formal options; contextualising in the light of social structures and cultural expectations;
Evaluating training approaches in the light of biblical principles and models and insights from intercultural studies
