2. Outline the contribution of some key people to the development of Christianity from 1550
3. Draw on selected primary and secondary sources to formulate historical viewpoints on the period from 1550
4. Present Organised evidence-based perspectives on the history of Christianity from 1550
C. Be in a position to
1. Relating perspectives from ‘Overview of Christianity through History B (post-1550)’ to inform ministry contexts
Content
There are many ways that an overview unit in Christianity through History could be approached. The content below aims to provide lecturers with flexibility whilst retaining a structure consistent with the aims of the unit.
Students must study at least 12 topics. Including:
- The Reformation in England and/or Scotland
- Puritanism in England and/or Scotland
- The Enlightenment and Christianity
- Pietism and Revival
- Christianity and Social Engagement (This may include areas such as the abolition of slavery, the Salvation Army, Women in the Church)
- The Birth of Modern Missions
- The Development of Christian Liberalism
- Fundamentalism
- The History of Pentecostalism
And at least three of the following:
- Christian Missions in a particular non-Western country or region (the specific location to be decided by the lecturer)
- The Rise of Sects in 19th Century America
- The Ecumenical Movement
- The Church in Totalitarian Regimes: Either Germany (1931-1950) or the Soviet Union (1917-1990)
- Evangelicalism after WWII
- The Church in Australia
- The Development of Denominations
- Outline of the History of a particular Denomination (denomination to be chosen by the lecturer)
