Citizenship requirements

Australian citizen who will undertake, in Australia, at least one unit of study contributing to your course; OR

New Zealand Special Category Visa holder who meets the long-term residency criteria and who will undertake, in Australia, at least one unit of study contributing to your course; OR

Permanent humanitarian visa holder who will be resident in Australia for the duration of your unit

FEE-HELP application

If you would like to defer the payment of your tuition fees for a course to a FEE-HELP loan, it is your responsibility to complete a Commonwealth Assistance Form. This must be completed on or before the census date of your units. Instructions are available under the Students folder in Documents on this website. To apply for a FEE-HELP loan, students must have reviewed the FEE-HELP Booklet. The 2023 FEE-HELP Booklet is avialable here.

Borrowing limit

For 2023, the combined HELP loan limit is $113,028

Your HELP balance is renewable. Any compulsory or voluntary HELP or VET student loan debt repayments starting from the 2019–20 income year top up a person’s HELP balance. These repayments are applied to a person’s HELP balance as of 1 July 2020 onwards. Repayments can be re-borrowed in the future, up to the current HELP loan limit.

Loan fees

There is a loan fee of 20% for FEE‑HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study only. The loan fee does not count towards your combined HELP limit. See the StudyAssist website for more information.
